Midwood Park Community Garden
Garden Master Plan Announced
The Midwood Park community gardeners have undertaken an ambitious long-range master plan to move our community garden and wildlife habitat to it's next level of development and beauty. A topographical survey was recently completed and a local design consulting firm specializing in native plants has developed a landscape design to restore the stream banks, add drama within the stream and beautify the garden.
About the Community Garden
The Midwood Park Community Garden began in the summer of 2005 by Plaza Midwood
residents interested in beautifying an unused lot near the tennis court
in Midwood Park. Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation is our partner
in this effort to create a beautiful, horticulturally-rich space where
children and adults can learn about preserving wildlife habitats, gardening
with native plants, composting and other environmental-friendly practices.
Currently, the garden includes several shade garden beds, a cutting garden
perennial bed, an herb garden, a developing children’s garden, and
a compost demonstration area. Neighborhood children made stepping stones
at Midwood Maynia in the spring of 2005 to provide decorative and functional
art in the garden. A creek bank planting and restoration project is planned
for the fall of 2005.
You don’t have to be a gardener to get involved! This is a community-building
project and everyone is welcome to join in the fun.
