car break in on sablewood drive last night

my car was broken into last night on sablewood dr.

the driver side window was completely smashed out,the car was gone through, but nothing was taken, the thefts were apparantly looking for money or things to pawn, maybe extra set of car keys to steal the car.this is very alarming,i have never had this happened to me on my life.if they do this, what's next? breaking in my home? i have children, and the amazing thing was i was downstairs on the sofa all night,i feel asleep watching tv,and i never heard a thing.is there anything we can do as neighbors to have a safe community, any suggestions would be great. i have never been so upset.

I am sorry to hear this has happened.

To answer your question, there are many things the community is trying to do.  Read through the blogs, contact your grid captain (or become one) and speak with all of your neighbors.  And always, report suspicious behavior to 911...always.  It is 100% helping on my street and in my grid (16).

If you need more suggestions, etc, just ask...everyone that reads these boards is trying to help in their own way.

I am so glad you feel we are making a difference.  We are trying.  We are implementing many measures to help us be safer in our own community, but we lack volunteers.  The few of us that are trying can't do it all.  We still need grid captains and neighbors who lookout for each other and keep their eyes open for suspicious behavior.  I have been trying to come up with new ideas like the PAIRING PROGRAM (i put out in  an earlier post), and testing security devices that I will have at the next quarterly meeting on display.  We are now working closely with the  police and sharing information, we sent out an email through your grid captains this week about one specific case.  This case was because we reported it.

All of this looks really good on paper but if no one is participating that is all it is, a plan on paper.

We are being interviewed by WCNC 36 tonight because  of our ideas.  We are trying stuff that no one else is doing.

I am completely open  to all your ideas and have asked for them, now I just need everyone  to get involved.  Look out  your  windows, notice what's going on around you, KNOW YOUR NEIGHBORS, BE A GOOD NEIGHBOR, speak to strangers on the street so they know you would recognize them again, and if you hear a noise or see something suspicious, check it out and call 911.

We are doing our part we just need the neighborhood to join us.  I am very grateful to all those who have joined our email/phone trees, come out to our meeting/events(nno), and just supported our efforts.  This is a great neighborhood and we want to keep it this way.  I have some GREAT grid captains in place, but still have areas that are not covered.

At Fall Crawl we are going to have a table set up so please stop by and check out how we are organized and VOLUNTEER.  We have a couple of efforts that need YOU.

I am so sorry for everyone that is a victim of a crime.  It is something none of us should have to suffer through, and not our fault.  We can't stop every crime but we can try.

Watch for us on the news, and keep up the good work.
