When I got home Thursday Evening, our trash bin had been mysteriously brought up our driveway to the back of our house. Neither my husband, nor I had moved it.  We asked our neighbor and his trash bin had also been mysteriously moved to the back of his house.  I'd like to think there is a good samaritan out there, but I fear that it's just someone staking out our houses.  It is so creepy to know that a stranger is walking around our house when we are not there.  Just in time for Memorial Vacation. 

Has anyone else noticed this happening?

Please - if you see a stranger moving your neighbors' bins, please call it in, they may not have good intentions. 

We have not noticed this but Thanks for the warning.  I suspect you may be right about someone casing your home.  Its an inocuous (did I spell that right?)way to get to your back door or your garage. 

In our little section of Plaza Midwood, we have an understanding that if you aren't home, one of your neighbors will take your trash bin and recycle bins out and back in.  Nothing says "no one is home" quite like a trash bin that's left out for a few days.  It's also a good neighborly practice to take your neighbors bins out to the curb if they aren't home or forget.  Once again it's a little security measure that indicates someone is home.  We usually check to make sure there's enough trash to make it worthwhile to the collectors.  (No point wasting tax dollars on an empty or nearly empty bin.)

I'd encourage everyone to consider the same practice with your neighbors.  We forgot ours once due to a medical emergency.  It was reassuring when we got home late and saw the trash was already out.
