    Cat Trappings

FYI, there is someone on the 1900 block of Thomas trapping cats with tuna and sending them to Animal Control to be euthanized. I understand that it can be dangerous to have a collar on an outdoor cat but PLEASE have them chipped or tattooed. We have already had one sweet, well cared-for kitty euthanized on our street. (We also learned that when Animal Control marks a female as altered vs. unaltered they actually have no idea. Do no rely on this to ID your animal.) I also beg anyone who is tempted to trap animals to at least warn your neighbors so they can take measure to ensure their pets' safety.

That is HORRIBLE!  I'm sure there must be legal recourse against this individual....assuming you know who he/she is?  I hate knowing that this neighborhood has such a cruel, heartless person in our midst!

Yes, we know. I think the person was having a hard time with another neighbor irresponsibly accumulating cats without spaying/neutering them and it was a nuisance. Unfortunately, there was nothing illegal about it - they should have warned responsible neighbors who care for their pets of their intentions so they could have chipped or tattooed them.

Well....please let the individual know that she COULD have contacted the SPCA Alliance and they would have paid for the spay/neuter of all those cats!  Or Friends of Feral Felines would have charged $20 per cat.  They could have been re-homed or returned to the neighbor.  There was no need to have them euthanized with these options available. The person also should have verified she was not trapping someone's pet!

    Re: Cat Trappings

I hate that someone is luring and trapping cats in our neighborhood. This might be a good time for cat owners to consider keeping their cats inside. I've seen a lot more cats roaming around the neighborhood in the last few months - darting across streets, etc. One even decided that hanging out in my fenced-in backyard was a good idea. That cat was lucky to make it back through the fence when I let the dog out! It would have been aweful if either animal was injured. Keeping cats inside is safer and probably a lot healthier for the cat in the long run.
