    Neighborhood Needs..........?

What does our neighbor need along Central Ave in terms of retail, restaurants, and services?  Our renovated building at 1401 Central is ready for occupancy and we want the right mix of neighborhood-friendy tenants.    What are your thougths?  Any feedback is greatly appreciated.

We need more cafe/bookstore/variety music/hangouts that could serve family patrons during the day and more adult oriented at night.

I really wish we had a neighborhood movie theater like the Manor.

    Re: Neighborhood Needs..........?

Agree completely.  We need a theater like the Manor and a craft brewery.  Asheville has 8 (yes,  8) craft breweries and Charlotte has none.  Something like the Pisgah Brewing Company with a tap room and live music in the evenings.  Not sure 1401 Central is structured for either of these but I hope we get some good tenants in there.  Building looks great from the outside!

While we have a number of restaurants we do not have a sushi bar, and that would fit into almost any space.  Creation serves sushi on Wednesdays only, I believe.  Also, while we have soft serve ice cream at the Dairy Queen, we do not have packed ice cream or gelato.  In fact, I don't know of a gelato store anywhere in Charlotte on a regular basis.  There is also a desperate need for a hardware store that sells fittings for old houses.

    Re: Neighborhood Needs..........?

I think the neighborhood could most profit from a dedicated coffeeshop/cafe and a dedicated wine bar.

On a smaller scale, I think a pet amenities shop or a bike/running store might do well.

I'd love to see a butcher shop, but that's probably a product of a bygone era.

I like the idea someone mentioned about a brewery, but I don't see that this building has space that would work. I remember when Carolina Brewery had their bar upstairs at 1111 Central, that was a great place.

Small movie theater - not necessarily first run films.  Somewhere teenagers and families can enjoy.

I agree with both the small theater and the microbrewery. Both of those things really build community and can be strong draws for a large variety of people.

    Re: Neighborhood Needs..........?

I miss what was there before.  I thought the GLCC and White Rabbit were a neat part of the eclectic fabric that attracted me to this area in the first place.  So, my first inclination would be to bring those back.  After that, anything that can serve as a form of community center and turn a profit at the same time would be a good deal.  The already mentioned brewpub might fit the bill.

We don't have a card store that includes cool stationary, invites etc.  I go to Cotzwold when I need a specific card that I can not find at Target.  It could be incorporated into another type of store like Buttercup or DI Central/Green with Envy.

    Re: Neighborhood Needs..........?

We need a bike shop.  Maybe like the one at Park Rd. Shopping Center which has sales and service of bike and bike related stuff but with a bike friendly sandwich shop etc.  Nice stop for families with kids, pets, etc.

Other than that maybe a kids craft/activity shop where kids could create pottery, paint, collage, etc. using recycled material would be a plus.  The idea would be to re-use and create.  Have an experience instead of just consuming.  But re-creating.  Have fun and be able to drop off the kids while you go to the HT or library.

How about a neighborhood hardware store?  Similar to Blackhawk.  A place for those smaller specialty itmes and things homeowners need on the weekend without having to go to the big box?

    Re: Neighborhood Needs..........?

Would be nice to have movie theatre like the one that used to be on Independence long time ago. Nice comfy chairs and tables where you can order food and drinks.

ecclectic jewelry store where you could bring in your old pieces and have them recreated.
