2008 Winter Fling — It Just Keeps Getting Better and Better!
by Megan Jarboe
Thanks so much to all of you who came out to help celebrate our Annual Winter Fling on Saturday, February 23 at the VanLandingham Estate. We were just a few shy of last year’s attendance — our biggest ever. We heard all sorts of great comments about the wonderful food, the fun atmosphere and how much everyone enjoyed each other’s company. The Community Garden Group’s auction was another huge success — raising $3,300 for garden projects. June Blotnick and Amy Harris deserve a huge round of applause for their hard work on such a wonderful project. Special thanks go to the VanLandingham Estate and their exceptional staff. The food was amazing and as always it is a pleasure to work with such an excellent team. We especially want to thank Mark Maddalon for hosting this event and Jack Dailey for making it happen. Thank you to the businesses that graciously provided door prizes for this year’s drawings as well as donations to the Garden Group’s auction. If you didn’t win one of these prizes, be sure and visit our local stores and restaurants and check out all of their great services and merchandise:
• Georgetown Day Spa
• Pura Vida
• Zada Jane’s Café
• Foskoskie’s
• Mama Ricotta’s
To all who attended, we hope you had a great time
catching up with neighbors and meeting the many new
folks that have joined our neighborhood in the past year.
What is the Winter Fling?
Hosted by the Plaza Midwood Neighborhood Association and the VanLandingham Estate, this annual neighborhood tradition features an evening of great food, cash bar, dancing, door prizes, a silent auction — all in the opulent setting of the beautiful Van Landingham! The Fling is open to anyone and is a great way to meet your neighbors and learn more about the great activities and committees sponsored by PMNA.
Not to be missed is the Arts and Services Auction Fundraiser for the Community Garden Group — which has become another great tradition here in the hood. The funds raised are used to underwrite garden needs. Please come with open checkbooks and help this worthy group. Plus, you’ll take home great artwork and other wonderful stuff.
If you want to extend your party, the Estate will be renting their stunning rooms to neighbors for the night at reduced rate. These can go fast, so if you’re interested, call early (see prices / contact info above). The overnight stay includes a truly sumptuous breakfast the next morning.
