I have a 96 outback that I am replacing a few parts at a time. (It has 104,000 miles) I had terrible and expensive repair experiences at both of the Subaru dealers in town. I have been going to Steve's Motorsports on Morehead (704 375-3267) for about 3 years. He's done some major work on my Outback. Steve is honest, considerably cheaper than the dealers and stands behind his work. Also he routinely works on Subarus. I even go there for routine stuff like oil changes. I would highly recommend Steve.
Otherwise I would check Angies list. If you are not a member it is well worth it.
