Angie,
If your trees are otherwise healthy, they will survive the worms. It will be stressful on them but most of your larger trees will replace the leaves eaten by the worms. Your trees have probably been through worse infestations. I would sit it out and make sure your trees get enough water if we don't get much rain.

If you have smaller trees you can spray them. There is an organic wormkiller I believe it is call bacillus something or other. You can get it at Myers Park Hardware. The folks there know their pests. We use the spray on our flowering cherry trees and it is very effective against the canker worms. It doesn't hurt you or the trees.

If you want an expert opinion I suggest you check Angies List (www.angieslist.com) for an arborist. If you aren't an Angies List member it is well worth it.
