Subject: How would you improve Midwood Park?
From: Philip Chang, PMNA Volunteer, plazamidwood@yahoogroups.com
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Dear Neighbors,
Park & Rec has given us the good news that Midwood Park will receive
$90,000 for improvements.
How would you improve the park?
In order to gather neighbor input in the most efficient manner, please
e-mail all improvement ideas to plazamidwood@yahoogroups.com, along
with your name and home address.
We prefer to receive all input by Tuesday, February 8.
Please rest assured that the 16-member board of PMNA will compile,
tally, and dissect all neighbor input to form the most sensible
list of improvements to be presented to Park & Rec.
Here is the wishlist so far, in no particular order, as suggested
by various neighbors as well as Park & Rec...Please feel free to
e-mail us to add to this wishlist:
1. Tennis Courts
a. replace existing two-nets tennis court with a single-net tennis
court to prevent erosion and drainage problems with court surface
b. Vinyl coat tennis court fence
2. Basketball Court Resurfacing
3. Landscape
a. landscaping/lighting/signage in the park to prevent undesirables
from hiding in the park after it closes at sunset
b. no lighting for night. We already have problems with people
playing basketball at night and using foul language (that I can
hear at my house with my 2 kids), especially in the summer.
c. Plant grass and improve turf at old volleyball site
d. Erosion is a huge problem in the park.
e. The mosquitoes in the park are awful in the summer
(maybe the stagnant water in some of the creek is to blame)
4. Playground, Picnic, Benches
a. at least 1 more picnic table close to the playground equipment.
There is 1 there now and gets very crowded. Parents don't want
to eat at the picnic shelter because it is not close enough to
keep an eye on another child.
b. more benches by the basketball court. Kids use that area to
ride bikes. I think there is only 1 bench there now. It would
give parents some extra seating.
c. sand box area. As a mom of 2 we go to meet friends at lots of
different parks around town and friends come to our park. Most
other parks (Freedom Park, Davie Park, etc...) all have sand box
areas with digging equipment that is also part of the area.
d. Any extra larger playground equipment would be great. The park
gets used constantly during the day by children of all ages.
The equipment for the older children (larger slide area) gets
over crowded quickly.
e. Playground addition - second swing set
f. a second picninc shelter on volleyball court site, more park
benches and picnic tables at playground
g. New metal roof on picnic shelter
5. Community Garden
a. bridge crossings over the two small creeks at the community
garden
b. Culvert and trail access to Community Garden
6. Amphitheater improvements (stage and seating)
7. Bathroom
a. ADA sidewalk correction behind restroom
b. Diamond rail fencing along roadside at restroom
c. Remove mulch in front of restroom and plant grass
d. Lighter colored ceiling
e. Stall partitions
f. New exterior light fixtures over doors
